Mission Statement
History
Pastime Athletic and Social Club, Inc. is a not for profit, member-owned social organization.
Founded in the 1930s, the club started as a men’s sports club fielding baseball, basketball, and football teams in the local community leagues. Today, Pastime sponsors area ball teams, darts, and pool leagues. It boasts a marina that will accommodate boats up to 23 ft. There are seasonal social events for members to celebrate the holidays and our fellowship. We support charitable organizations and other social clubs in the community.
Facility
Located on the hill overlooking the marina and Veteran’s Park, the building has a bar, kitchen, and banquet hall with views of the harbor and spectacular sunsets. There is outdoor seating for members and friends on the front porch and patio that shares the view from the hall. When the weather is good, friends will gather here to enjoy a cold drink, conversation, lawn games, and live music.
There are a limited number of equipment lockers, boat slips, and kayak storage available to members each season.
An independent operator runs our restaurant and caters for the private events held on the premises.
The banquet hall is used for meetings, parties, fundraising events, and restaurant seating when not in use for a private event. The room is air-conditioned with a large-screen TV that can be used for video displays, a dance floor, and a service bar. It has a private entrance, and restrooms are separate from the bar area. The hall has seating for 95, less with a dance floor and DJ or small band,
The bar and restaurant are open to members and their guests during operating hours and non-members are welcome in accordance with the Connecticut statutes defining Social Organization and the rules of the Pastime Club. Check the website calendar for hours.
Events
Pastime hosts several events for members, their families, and friends throughout the year. We also hold “Membership Drives” and invite those interested in membership to participate. Events organized and run by members include holiday parties, pasta dinners, comedy nights, musical shows, fishing tournaments, and summer picnics to name a few.
Membership
The Pastime Athletic and Social Club Inc is registered with the Secretary of State as a social club. The law requires the membership to contribute some of its financial resources to cover certain operating expenses in the form of dues. The balance of the operating expenses is covered by income generated from hall rentals, leases of the boat slips, lockers, and fundraising efforts. To keep overhead costs at a minimum, we rely on the skills and talents of our members to run our governing board, maintain the docks and floats, building & grounds, and run our social events on a volunteer basis. Each member is expected to attend the general meetings and contribute at least 10 hours per year in service to the club to help offset overhead costs**.
Any adult of good character wishing to join our fellowship is welcome to apply for membership.
We offer individual and family memberships. Family memberships convey all the rights and responsibilities to both adults.
